Strathallan students secure top Highers

Results published today by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) show Strathallan School students have achieved 100% A/B in a range of subjects including History, Spanish, Music, Modern Studies, Latin and Computing.

Headmaster Mark Lauder congratulated the Sixth Formers taking Highers in Upper and Lower Sixth this year on their hard work and well-deserved success during a challenging academic year.

He said, “These results represent a tremendous achievement for our pupils. Each one of them should be incredibly proud of their results and we wish them all the very best for the future as they go on to change the world in their own unique way.

“In September we became the first boarding school in Scotland to offer a full one-year Higher programme alongside our existing two-year Higher programme and A Level courses and the results today speak for themselves; a quarter of the year group have been awarded at least five A grades and we have achieved an excellent pass rate of 99%. I am delighted for the pupils and their teachers who have worked so hard to achieve these results and I congratulate the Class of 2021.”

One of the pupils delighted with his results today was Captain of Basketball, Blair Mackenzie, who received six As in Mathematics, History, Economics, Business, Modern Studies and Physical Education.

Blair, who joined Strathallan in 2017, will follow in the footsteps of Olympic Champion and former pupil Duncan Scott as he confirms his place to study Sports Studies at the University of Stirling.

“I am speechless,” the 18 year-old from Perth said. “It hasn’t been easy but I am over the moon because with these results I can head to Stirling and continue to pursue sports and play basketball.”

Another pupil delighted with her results this morning was Bowes MacKinnon-Belcher, who has confirmed her place to study History at the University of Edinburgh having received 6 As in History, Human Biology, Modern Studies, Geography, Business and English.

“I’m so glad all the hard work has paid off,” said the 17-year-old from Auchterarder.

“I’m excited to take the next steps on my journey in Edinburgh and continue to study History which has become my passion at school.”

Picking up her results remotely in Manchester student Molly Evans, who also received six As, said she hopes to continue her upward trajectory as she goes on to study Education at the University of Dundee.

“Ever since I left primary school I knew I wanted to be a teacher and I’ve been blessed with so many great role models. I’m incredibly proud of my results today and I can’t wait to see where teaching takes me.”
