Receiving over 350 entries per category, Isobel W was named Senior runner up, placing second in the country for her piece on the theme of feeling ‘lost’.
Isobel, who joined Strathallan from Perth Australia, said she was thrilled to have her artwork recognised.
She said, “Having my artwork recognised has meant more than I would have guessed, it was something totally unexpected and it makes me feel proud of something I have created to be recognised.”
“I created this artwork to express a feeling that I struggle to describe in words. I was trying to capture this focusing on atmosphere and mood. The painting is actually very small in terms of scale. I have only started painting with oils this academic year and my aim was to work on paper in a loose and slightly expressive style.”
Strathallan student Hannah J from The Hague, The Netherlands, was also highly commended in the same category for her piece Iona.
Hannah said, “I was quite surprised to get commended, I completed it at home when I was recovering from an injury so it's great to know my hard work has been appreciated.”
“I love that art can evoke reactions from people, even if it is still abstract it can stir their emotions and that’s what I wanted to do with this piece.”
Head of Art, Francis Glancy said, “We are incredibly proud of Isobel and Hannah. It’s great to see their work recognised nationally. I can’t wait to see what they do next with their art.”
