World Rugby U20 Trophy: Kenya calls for former pupils Callum Norrie and Jonny Morris

Former Strathallan students Callum Norrie and Jonny Morris are gearing up for the World Rugby U20 Trophy for Scotland.

The pair, who were selected for the Scottish U16 Blues squad together 3 years ago, will now compete side-by-side in the three-week long tournament in Nariboi, Kenya.

Callum, who competed in the U20 Summer Series last year alongside fellow FP Andy Stirrat, said, “It’s a great opportunity. After playing in Italy last year and having a few experienced players will serve us well as a squad. I think we have an amazing opportunity to do something special as a group.”

Jonny, who joined Callum and fellow FP Harris McLeod in this year’s U20 Six Nations campaign, added, “Very excited, I can’t wait to get going and play in some tough conditions. Looking most forward to playing Samoa.”

Scotland U20 begin their campaign first with a match against Zimbabwe U20 on Saturday 15 July at 6am GMT. All matches will be available to watch here.

It has been a remarkable year for rugby at Strathallan. With current and former pupils representing the School, their clubs and Scotland on the international stage.

In the same year that 9 former pupils and two current students made their mark for Scotland in the Six Nations, 7 former pupils have now been selected for the Scottish Rugby World Cup training squad.

Best of luck to Scotland Captain Jamie Ritchie, Zander and Matt Fagerson, Cameron Henderson, Ollie Smith, George Horne and Murphy Walker as they prepare for the world's most prestigious rugby tournament.

Earlier this year, 10 current Academy players were selected for the U18 Glasgow Warriors and Caledonia training squads.

Lottie R and Joe T were selected for the Scottish U18 15s and 7s squads, with Lottie playing in the U18 Six Nations series and Joe going on to be selected for Team Scotland's Rugby 7s squad for the Commonwealth Youth Games earlier this month.

Former pupil Aicha Sutcliffe has also had an incredible season, playing in the Premiership final for Stirling County RFC and the U20 Six Nations Festival for Scotland.

Across the pond, former pupil Josh Henderson recently played in the Major League Rugby's Grand Final for San Diego Legion against the New England Free Jacks.

Meanwhile, former Captain of School, Charlotte Gilmour has just finished a fantastic season with Harvard Women's Rugby, helping them reach both the NIRA Championship Final and the Ivy 7s Cup Final, with over 106 carries to her name in 2022 alone!

Closer to home, 11 former pupils faced each other in the FOSROC Super Series, with more action expected later this month when the Championship begins.
