Strathallan Netball Team secure top 3 finish at World School Games

The Strathallan School 1st VII U18 Netball team recently returned from an inspiring journey to the World School Games, where they showcased their exceptional skills on the international stage.

Led by Netball Captains Katie M and Olivia F, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience, securing an impressive third-place finish in the Plate. Katie and Olivia look back on their tournament run in the following report.

The World School Games presented an unparalleled opportunity for the Strathallan netball team to compete against schools from various countries, exposing them to different playing styles and standards.

Throughout the tournament, the Strathallan players exhibited their adaptability and versatility as they faced teams renowned for their physicality and swift gameplay. The encounters proved to be a challenge, but the team quickly adjusted to the pace, resulting in close, competitive games.

“The girls all agree that our games have contributed to our individual and collective growth,” said Katie.

The journey began with an exhilarating match against Sedbergh which ended in a close loss.

Moving forward to the quarter-finals against Hillcrest International School from Kenya, the girls displayed their prowess, winning 28-4, earning them a spot in the highly-anticipated semi-finals.

In the semi-final, the Strathallan netballers faced their toughest opponents yet, the mighty Scarisbrick team from England. Despite a valiant effort, they fell short of victory, yet their spirits remained undeterred. Their determination surged as they set their sights on the final match, where they met a skilled team from Scotland, Balerno.

The final proved to be a nail-biting clash. The Strathallan team exhibited fantastic teamwork, culminating in a thrilling 17-14 victory. This performance secured them an impressive third-place finish in the Plate.

Reflecting on the competition, Mrs Louise Waugh, Head of Netball at Strathallan, expressed her pride in the team's achievements.

“I’m incredibly proud of the whole team. They have gained invaluable experience at the World School Games, which will stay with them as they move forward in the sport.
