Freya set to serve for Scotland

Strathallan student Freya C has been selected to represent Scotland in the upcoming Four Nations Junior Championships 2022.

The Fourth Form pupil will be competing in Glasgow with the rest of her teammates from the 23rd-25th of September. Having represented Scotland in the same event twelve months ago, she is ready to build on that experience and help Scotland bring home the title.

Freya said, “I’m really excited to be playing for my country at the Home Nations for the second year in a row - l really enjoyed it last year and can’t wait to get on the court with my teammates.”

A very proud Head of Tennis, Tommy Ogilvie, said, “Freya’s selection to represent Scotland in September is a fantastic achievement and everyone at Strathallan wishes her well for the Home Nations. Freya has enjoyed a good summer, picking up some great results. We have one week left to help prepare Freya as much as possible for the event, and I know she is ready and looking forward to the challenge.”

It’s been a fantastic summer on court for Strathallan’s tennis players, with some exceptional results in competitions all across the country.

Sixth Form pupil Marcus McL won his first Grade 2 British Title in July. Marcus then qualified for his first Mens Main Draw at British Tour level while competing in Ilkley, coming up against world-ranked opponents for the first time. Marcus is competing regularly at ITF (International Tennis Federation) level, consistently picking up points and improving his ranking as well as gaining more main draw experience. We look forward to watching what Marcus can do over the next twelve months in the U18 age group before moving on from school and competing regularly in mens tennis.

Jed McM, represented his Mens County team in the Summer County Cup down in Hunstanton. Another highlight for Jed was making his first main draw at U18 ITF level, when winning through qualifying to test himself against some of the best junior players in the UK and beyond.

The results from Freya C and Anni W have been really encouraging, with both players picking up titles in doubles events at U16, U18 and Open events. This is great recognition for the girls and it’s great to see both girls competing in older age categories and being successful.

Thomas D has enjoyed a very successful period on court, with a series of amazing results over the summer - picking up several titles while winning 24 out of 25 matches in U14 competition throughout Scotland this summer. What an achievement.

Head of Tennis Tommy, added, “It has been a busy and successful spell over the summer holidays for some of our scholars. There have been some notable achievements by some of our players, with Marcus winning his first Grade 2 National title, Jed representing his mens county at Summer County Cup. The boys then represented their counties in the Under 18 T Cup. Thomas D has been on an unbelievable run, what a summer he has had! On top of that, there have been some great doubles results for Anni W, and Ben C. It’s great to see the pupils’ hard work be rewarded with positive results."

As the new term starts and our pupils return to campus, a variety of opportunities available for beginners looking to pick up a racket for the first time, those wanting to get back into tennis after a break, or anyone looking to develop their tennis further.

No matter what standard you are, there is something for you to get involved with in the school tennis programme.
