Strathallan School performance of 1980s hit goes viral

A whole-school performance of John Farnham’s ‘You’re the Voice’ by Scottish school Strathallan has been a big hit.

Strathallan School’s Big Sing 2022

The largest school roll in Strathallan’s history gathered on school grounds earlier this year to sing the anthem.

With Strathallan School Pipe Band providing the backbeat to the song, the power ballad also features singing solos, a full orchestra and a rock band.

The vision for this year’s Big Sing came from Strathallan’s Director of Music, Jason McAuley, who said, “It’s more important than ever to enable our young people to participate in music.”

“We knew right away that we wanted to involve as many of the school pupils in recording, so we took our mics from the swimming pool to the shooting range to make sure all the voices heard and music played was performed by our talented young people.”

This year’s viral hit video was recorded by Strathallan staff; Dominic Glasgow, Neil Hamilton, Kyle Howie, Jenna Peters and Peter Murch. The audio was recorded, mixed and mastered by Fraser Christie and the video was edited and produced by Dominic Glasgow.
